Olive Lane Cafe, Balwyn
  • Olive Lane Cafe, Balwyn

A collaboration with Harrison & White Architects, this project called for the redevelopment of a building with significant site constraints for the purpose of accommodating a 100 seat cafe. The project brief involved affirming the idea of a 'lane' or laneway in order to activate a north-south pedestrian corridor from Doncaster Road to the rear of the premises. The olive tree, a key theme of the space, is embodied in the use of pigmented concrete and the provision of space for the planting of an olive tree. The use of existing materials and new subtle green colour palette has informed the name of the establishment, Olive Lane.
